A Century of Black Excellence: Honoring the Past, Shaping the Future
Join Coastline College this February as we celebrate Black History Month with a full lineup of engaging events throughout the month. Together, we’ll honor the achievements, resilience, and lasting contributions of Black communities through opportunities for learning, reflection, and connection. All students, faculty, staff, and community members are invited to participate as we come together to celebrate history, culture, and the power of collective voices!

Black Love Book Club
Join Umoja and the Dolphin Pride Scholars for a Black Love Book Club in honor of Black History Month, this month’s read is Flirting Lessons by Jasmine Guillory, which explores Black queer love and connection.

- To receive your book on time, we encourage you to sign up by January 31.
Following the conclusion of reading the book, come together for light bites to discuss the book and key highlight. Light snacks will be provided. Come read, reflect, and celebrate Black love in the community!

UMOJA 1st Annual Sneaker Ball
The 2026 Sneaker Ball—hosted by CBCSS and Umoja Region 7 at Mt. San Antonio College—brings students and coordinators together for a night of style, music, and community. Held in Building 410, the Summit Event Center, the event features food, a DJ, dancing, a photo booth, and special student awards.
Students can enter the NIKE sneaker raffle by completing a networking card handed out at the event, encouraging connection and engagement with peers and coordinators. Come dressed in your freshest fits and flyest kicks and enjoy an unforgettable Umoja night.
