FUNDING GUIDELINES

Alternative Methods provides Overload Pay to earn a maximum of up to (27) clock hours of work per academic year. Projects completed for overload pay will be paid in one lump sum after the evidence of completion is submitted and approved by the IPD Chair. Applications are approved for funding on a first-come, first-served basis.

Fall projects = paid in December
Spring projects = paid in May

NEW for 2026-27- Faculty are eligible for up to $3,000 IPD primary funding allowance per academic year. The funding may be used to attend a discipline/general teaching conference - OR - to complete an Alternative Methods project. (See exception below).

The Alternative Methods funding is designed to provide a benefit equivalent to the $3,500 available to faculty who select the conference funding/conference presenter option. Because Alternative Methods compensation is processed through payroll, the total amount charged to the IPD budget includes both the faculty overload pay (27 hours = approximately $2,916) and the associated payroll-related costs (approximately $500 in medical, work comp, STR, etc.), resulting in a total expenditure comparable to the conference funding allocation.

Exception: Faculty may still be eligible for additional special conference funding if they meet specific criteria, such as attending a statewide Academic Senate conference, attending a conference related to responsibilities in a faculty leadership position or committee-related role, or qualifying for CFE supplemental funds or equity related funding.

1. I acknowledge that I am applying for overload pay, have reviewed and understand the Alternative Methods funding guidelines, including the maximum compensation amount, payment timeline, and that selecting Alternative Methods will use my annual IPD primary funding allowance in lieu of regular IPD discipline/general teaching conference funding for 2026-27.

2. I acknowledge that documentation of completion for all pre-approved coursework/projects must be submitted to the IPD within ten days of completing the class/project. I understand that the IPD will report earned Alternative Methods overload to campus personnel for final disbursement. Failure to submit the required documentation may delay payment due to fiscal deadlines.
