GWC IPD - PROFESSOR EMERITUS APPLICATION

Golden West College recognizes faculty members' distinguished service and distinction at the college by conferring emeritus title effective upon retirement. The honorary title is given in accordance with qualifications and procedures which are recommended by the GWC Institute for Professional Development (IPD).

ELIGIBILITY FOR PROFESSOR EMERITUS STATUS:

Retired from GWC.
Have at least 15 years of service as a full-time faculty member in the Coast Community College District.
Apply or be nominated for the Emeritus rank by submitting an application to the IPD Academic Rank/Emeritus Subcommittee.
Show evidence of active campus involvement by citing membership on committees appointed by the Academic Senate, by identifying grants submitted on behalf of the college, or by detailing community service including but not limited to performances or exhibitions in music, theater, and athletics.

EMERITUS QUALIFICATIONS

CRITERIA FOR ACADEMIC RANK OF PROFESSOR:
Full-time tenured certificated faculty who fulfills the following criteria.

Nine (9) years of full-time teaching at an accredited college or university; and
An earned doctorate degree; or
Completion of sixty (60) semester units of student subsequent to receipt of a master’s degree or an unencumbered “Class A” vocational credential or an unencumbered Standard Designated Subject Area (Vocational) credential. (At least thirty (30) of the units must be academic; or
On scale V of the Coast Community College Certificated Salary Schedule.

3. If you retired before the institution of the Professor academic rank, please provide a brief explanation demonstrating how you met the criteria for that rank.

CRITERIA #4 FOR PROFESSOR EMERITUS STATUS:

4. Please describe how you fulfilled Professor Emeritus Status criterion #4 by providing examples of active campus involvement beyond your contracted teaching assignment.

5. I acknowledge that the IPD Committee will review Petitions for Professor Emeritus Status in November and notify applicants of its decision via email. I understand that approved Academic Rank title changes will be reported to the District and Golden West College Human Resources, appropriate administrative offices, and Graphics for updates to the college catalog and other official publications, effective the following academic year.
