The Umoja Learning Community at Golden West College is excited to welcome you into a space built for connection, culture, and community.
If you’re new to Umoja — welcome! Umoja (which means unity in Swahili) is a supportive learning community focused on uplifting Black student voices and experiences. Our mission is to help you thrive academically, grow personally, and stay rooted in your identity as you work toward graduation, transfer to HBCUs, UCs, or CSUs, and beyond.
This semester, we’re hosting a variety of events including Porch Talks, guest speakers, workshops, and field trips — all designed to create space for real conversations, self-advocacy, and celebration of Black excellence.
💬 Porch Talks are open, judgment-free spaces where we speak truth, share stories, and support each other through the ups and downs of college life.
We’ll also be sharing resources to help you succeed both on and off campus — from academic support to career prep to community care.
Whether you’re just starting out or looking to deepen your connections, we’d love for you to be part of this journey with us.
Let’s grow together. ✊🏾💛
