Join us for a special Filipino American History Month Workshop featuring Dr. Bernard Ellorin, one of Southern California’s leading experts on maritime Southeast Asian gong-chime music.

Dr. Ellorin is a master of the Filipino banduria--a plucked string instrument rooted in Spanish and Filipino musical traditions--and is deeply versed in the rondalla, Cordillera percussion music, and kulintang, an ancient gong ensemble tradition from the Southern Philippines. As one of the few kulintang instructors in the U.S., Dr. Ellorin has been a cornerstone of Filipino performing arts and education in San Diego and Los Angeles since 1992.

During this interactive workshop, participants will:

  • Learn about the cultural and historical significance of Filipino American traditions

  • Experience live demonstrations of kulintang and other traditional instruments

  • Engage in hands-on activities that bring these vibrant art forms to life
