Tutor Interest Form
The Math Center, the Writing & Humanities Tutoring Center, and the Science & Engineering Tutoring Center hire tutors throughout the semester based on student demand. If there is no current need for the subject you want to tutor, you are still encouraged to fill out this Interest Form. There may be a need for your subject later in the semester.
Due to the large number of applications received, applicants will only be contacted if an
interview is warranted. In addition, you must complete the district application prior to interview:
Application for full-time students (12 units and above for the 2024-2025 academic year)
Application for non-students and students who are enrolled under 12 units
Minimum qualifications to be a tutor:
• 3.0 GPA
• B or A grade in classes to be tutored
• Recommendation from instructor for each subject area
• Copy of transcripts (unofficial)
• Approximately 10 hours minimum per week commitment
• Excellent communication skills
• Friendly, patient, dependable with strong work ethic
• Organized and able to complete tasks on time
New tutors will complete TUTR 090N & TUTR 091N (Tutor Training) during their first semester. Students who pass both classes will receive a Certificate of Completion in Tutoring Skills and Strategies. The class may be waived for applicants with advanced degrees and experience at the discretion of the Center Coordinator.
