Umoja, (a Kiswahili word meaning unity) is a community and critical resource dedicated to enhancing the cultural and educational experiences of African American and other students. We believe that when the voices and histories of students are deliberately and intentionally recognized, the opportunity for self-efficacy emerges and a foundation is formed for academic success. Umoja actively serves and promotes student success for all students through a curriculum and pedagogy responsive to the legacy of the African and African American Diasporas. Program Requirements:

However, you are more than welcome to fill out our Umoja application even if you're not currently a student at OCC. A staff member will reach out to you shortly to assist with the next steps to ensure your eligibility for the program.
Welcome to the Coast! To be eligible for the Umoja Program at OCC, you must first complete an OCC application. Click here to submit your application. If you plan to transfer previous coursework, please arrange for your official transcript to be sent to our Enrollment Center (click here for further instructions). When you meet with our Umoja counselor, make sure to discuss your previous coursework and college to ensure a smooth continuation of your academic journey at OCC.
